LT-WTS: Accumulators for Lancair IV-X

Postby LancairTalk Sales » Wed Apr 10, 2024 10:21 pm

We have new Hydac accumulators for the IV series. These are 3000 psi, 0.5L volume, with the cold temperature bladder material (good to -40) which is best suited for high altitude temperatures and winter ops.

Hydac makes the Parker units so that's why they look similar. See pictures below. The pressures for preset of the bladder can be discussed here also. There actually is some science to the preset and the pressure depends on how the accumulator is used.

Three units remaining for Lancair owners who want an accumulator. These are brand new with the low temperature membrane as recommended by the manufacturer for coldest operations. Rated 3000 psi @ 250F. capacity 0.5L.

These are bladder-type units. There are other units that are longer and utilize and piston and spring.

In the past, there have been questions about the pre-charge pressure. There is actually a set of equations to use based on the intended use of the accumulator. Is it storing a safety charge or preventing movement in a lift device or providing buffer for surging or providing spare hydraulic pressure.

If you want a spare or replacement unit please reply or PM or email. Typical restock times seem to be about 5-6 months so don't get caught. If you have acquired a Lancair with an accumulator be sure to ask on LancairTalk how to check the capacity and operation tests. Some of these units could be 24 years old perhaps in Lancairs so...

I received my new accumulator today from the batch discussed above. It looks like a good match for the original.

Original Accumulator markings
MAWP 3000 PSI AT 180 F MDMT 5 F MADE IN GERMANY 05/94
HYDAC 0 210 9449/113/ VOLUME 30 CU.IN. PO PSI SN 060864

New Accumulator markings
MAWP 3000 PSI AT 250 F MDMT -20 F MADE IN USA 04/24
HYDAC 2109449/113 VOLUME 30 CU.IN. SN A 2977641

Thanks Paul and Ed

I plan to charge it to 600psi and install it this weekend. Does anyone have ideas for avoiding more oil in my face when I uncap the line and connect it to the accumulator?
