Re: Sodium battery

Sat Mar 15, 2025 3:07 pm

Just wanted to give an intial report on the Sodium battery that I purchased from Andy at Aerolithium and I installed in my Lancair Legacy with a IO-550. My Legacy first flew in 2004 with an Odyessy PC680 battery that would crank over the engine adequatley at 70F but not below 40F. In 2017 I switched to the Earth-X ETX900 and the engine would crank about twice a fast as the PC680 at 70F. In 2024 I moved to the PNW and in the below 40F the ETX900 would no longer crank over the engine but it was over 7yr old. At this point I read Andy`s post about his Soduim battery and I dedcided to give it a try. So far so good. After being cold soaked overnight at 26F I waited until after lunch when it had warmed up to 34F and the Sodium battery cranked over my IO-550 at about the same RPM that the PC680 would crank it at 70F when it was new. Andy told me his Sodium battery should last about 8-10 years. Time will tell.
